The Phan Thiet-Dau Giay expressway can make the intercity part of a Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet drive much quicker than the old all-surface-road journey.
It cannot promise a fixed number of hours saved for your booking: city traffic, access to the expressway, a break and the final hotel road still count.
Plan the complete drive on the Ho Chi Minh City–Phan Thiet route from the actual pickup to the actual destination.
The expressway is one important section of that journey, not its whole clock.
Ho Chi Minh City-Phan Thiet expressway time saving
When the 99 km Phan Thiet-Dau Giay section opened in 2023, public estimates compared the new corridor with the longer pre-expressway journey. Those opening estimates show why the road matters, but they are historical comparisons, not a present-day arrival guarantee for each car.
Which road sections connect the two cities?
A common route uses Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay and then Phan Thiet-Dau Giay, with local roads at the start and end. The exact entry, exit and final approach depend on current signs, traffic management and the two addresses. For a fuller comparison, see choosing the road for your departure.
Opening estimate and current road conditions
Do not subtract a historic “hours saved” figure from your own journey estimate. Look at the travel day instead: time to leave the city, any congestion at connections, rest needs and the local road into Doi Duong or Tien Thanh. Road works and weather can change a particular departure.

Can the booked vehicle use the chosen road?
The driver must follow the permitted route and current signs for the assigned vehicle. A map suggestion is not permission to use a closed access point. The Phan Thiet-Dau Giay section now collects tolls, so ask how road charges are handled in the trip quote instead of assuming an old fare arrangement still applies.
An expressway does not determine the whole duration
Two travellers can use the same fast middle section and still arrive at different times. One may board near an easy city exit and go straight to a central hotel; another may make a second pickup, stop for lunch and continue to Tien Thanh. Compare door-to-door journeys, not motorway kilometres.
Rest stops and electric-vehicle planning
Plan a break at a signed, lawful place in the direction of travel. Service availability can change, so confirm a particular need such as food, fuel or compatible charging before relying on it. For stop planning, see choosing a lawful stop along the journey. An emergency lane is for emergencies, not a routine picnic.

Where the time saving matters most
A flexible hotel arrival
Use the faster corridor where appropriate, but let a comfortable stop fit the day.
A fixed city appointment
Work backwards from the appointment and add a buffer; do not treat the expressway opening estimate as your deadline plan.
Several drop-offs
The final passenger’s arrival includes every earlier stop, even if all parties shared the same expressway drive.
Before confirming a travel time
Share the boarding address, final gate, planned stops, date and any required arrival time. The provider can discuss a sensible departure and road option. Keep the return journey separate: its traffic and stops may be different.
Frequently asked questions
Does the expressway reach my Phan Thiet hotel?
No. The last part uses connecting and local roads.
How many hours will it save on my date?
There is no reliable fixed saving for every pickup and hotel. Compare current whole-route options for your departure; for the private-car route, see details for the Ho Chi Minh City–Phan Thiet journey.
